A Time of Reflection for Those Bereaved by Suicide

Sunday 1 November, 2pm

St. Columba's Church, Glenrothes

FREE

Short talks, poetry readings and music, to remember those who have tragically lost their lives to suicide.

In Fife there are about 50 deaths by suicide annually. Each suicide has a devastating and lasting impact on families, friends and communities. Those bereaved in this way may feel isolated, stigmatised and perhaps find it more difficult to grieve.

Coming together in remembrance like this is important, not only to supporting bereaved family and friends, but also to break the taboo on suicide.

Talks and readings will be led by the acting head of spiritual care at NHS Fife, the Fife Choose Life development officer, and representatives of SOBS (Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide). These will be interspersed with music allowing for personal reflection, and two remembrance activities – candle lighting and posting of message leaves on an image of a tree.

The event will last for approximately 30 minutes, followed by refreshments and an opportunity for those attending to chat with each other, to browse information from SOBS, Cruse, the Samaritans and Choose Life, and to get support from these organisations if needed.

Based on a model used successfully in Edinburgh City.
