Samuel Barber’s beautiful Adagio for Strings has long had an association with contemplation and comfort in a time of grief. It has been played at many funerals and memorial occasions over the 80 years since its composition, including those of Roosevelt, Kennedy, Einstein, Princess Grace, Princess Diana and the victims of 9/11.
The Edinburgh Singers are holding a public concert featuring Barber’s exquisite choral version of this piece, to the words of the Agnus Dei.
It will be set among a selection of other a cappella choral music which traces the journey from grief to consolation:
There will be a complimentary wine reception during the interval.
Tickets (£12/£10, kids under 12 free) are available from The Queen's Hall: http://www.thequeenshall.net/whats-on/agnus-dei or 0131 668 2019, or on the door.

Broken Chains outreach project in Kilmarnock are holding a Remembrance Cafe on Sunday 4 November.
Many of the people involved with the project continually have to deal with loss and grief. At the Remembrance Cafe they will create a remembrance planter with memorial roses and an "In Loving Memory" plaque. This will then be placed in a designated area in the Howard Centre garden and will be available to visit.
The cafe will be a safe space where folk can come to remember and share stories and friendship. There will be music that is important to individuals, candles to light, postcards to fill in and bricks to build a memory wall.
