Stories and poems from Craigie High School, Dundee

Yvonne

She lost her sister Vivian, she died when she was 50. They were friends but didn’t see much of each other as they went to different schools. She doesn’t have many memories. Her sister was a singer and liked music. She had short wavy golden hair and was always happy. She worked as a history teacher. Yvonne misses her sister’s cheerfulness.

Yvonne was born and grew up in Devon. She liked to play the piano but not much now. She has 5 grandchildren, 2 children – a boy and a girl and has 2 friends, one of them she has known for 50 years. She sees her daughter and her children often but doesn’t see her son and his children a lot. She tried to teach her grandchildren how to play the piano but can’t play it now. She used to like gardening and walk guide dogs but can’t do it now as she has Parkinson’s disease.

She and her husband met in Cyprus in the air force. She worked in the kitchen and he was a pilot. After they met they didn’t see each other for months but then met up again when Turkey and Cyprus were fighting and they then got married in Cyprus and moved to Dundee. Her husband still likes to fly places but she only likes to read and hasn’t watched a movie for years.
